What a simple CV needs

Six sections cover almost every job: contact details, a two- or three-line summary, work experience, education, skills, and languages. Add certifications or projects only when they matter for the role.

Everything else is optional. A simple CV is easier to read, easier to keep up to date, and easier for applicant tracking systems to parse.

A one-hour plan

Ten minutes: contact details and education. They're facts, so they're quick.

Thirty minutes: work experience. For each role, write three bullet points that start with a verb and end with a result, like "Trained six new staff members and cut onboarding by a week".

Ten minutes: skills and languages. List only what you'd be comfortable being tested on.

Ten minutes: the summary. Write it last, once you know what the rest of the page says. Then read the whole CV out loud and cut anything that sounds like filler.

You don't have to start from a blank page
